Is there more pay outs or do just the top 3 take prizes?

WOW!! I may be wrong but I think that's the biggest payout east of the Mississippi. I know the Ohio Valley is offering $10,000 but that is if it's over 2000 lbs and a world record. That kind of prize money will make some people leave those they may be loyal to.

The lower prize money is great as well. I mean $350 for 600-800 lb pumpkins...600 lbs won't get you $50 at any GPC weighoff in Ohio before this. Why need to go GPC Wiz? they are paying that without GPC backing & I'm sorry but growers don't need GPC to get credit for what they grow. It's grown, it's officially weighed..done. One or 2 more of those kind of weighoffs ( paying that large) in the east & I would think the GPC would be the smaller dog.

I wonder how many 400 to 800 pound pumpkins this weigh off can handle? I'd hate to haul my junk up there to find out they've run out of money....LOL

if this new weigh-off continues into future years? it would only make sence to become a gpc site. why? because it will attract even more growers with the really big pumpkins. growers who need the weight for a run at top ten in the gpc and grower of the year contest. it sounds like this new site will be a great addition to what amounts to several great weigh-offs already located in ohio. id would urge them to go GPC next year. pap

All, My name is Jason Snyder and I am the organizer of this event. I apologize for any confusion my post has caused. I would like to address some of the comments above, this weigh off is not to compete against GPC weigh offs. I would like us to become a GPC site, but we need to develop and fine tune our event before we apply to become an official GPC site. I have been growing for 10 years myself with no success and I know how much time and money goes into growing giant pumpkins. Our weigh off allows pre weighed pumpkins and you the grower can weigh in here and then go to another weigh off. When we began organizing this we attempted to hold our event on a weekend that did not conflict with a sanctioned weigh off. I have received several calls about the prize money and listened to many suggestions. Our committee has decided that it would be more beneficial if we paid out to 20 places instead of the 1st thru 3rd. The down side to this is it lowers the 1st 2nd and 3rd prize monies. Here is the prize structure 1st- $5000 2nd- $3000 3rd- $2000 4th- $1500 5th- $1000 6th thru 10th- $500 11th thru 15th- $300 16th thru 20th- $200

Few other things I need to correct, we are wanting to buy 6 pumpkins weighing 400-600lbs for professional sculptors. We can afford to pay $200 each for them. Also, we would like to to pay you the grower $350 to participate in the regatta on Sunday Oct 7th. We need to buy 2 pumpkins weighing 600-800 lbs for the sponsors of the regatta. The sponsors would like to be part of the regatta. If you are interested in helping us with this please call us at 513-635-7776.
