How does this weigh off work. What is the schedule? Do the weigh you in as you show up or do you weigh at a different time. I have never been to a weigh off this is my first year growing pumpkin. Just looking for information thanks.

Get in line in front of the Lawrence Community Center. Then go in the growers entrance to fill out the entry form and pay the $20 entry fee. As your turn to weigh comes, the high school wrestling team, coaches and other experienced people will rig up your pumpkin with the lifting ring and the Pumpkin Master on the forklift will take it to the scale. If you have a watermelon or field pumpkin, they have a tarp to carry it to the scale. We start weighing at 8AM and try to be done by 11 to 11:30. Awards are presented at noon. It can be a rush to get things weighed if we have a lot of entries, as the top 3 pumpkins are loaded on a float for the parade. You can load up after 4PM. This gives people plenty of time to come through to see them. We charge $2 to the general public to help raise funds for next year's weigh-off. Get here early so you have plenty of time to visit with the other growers. Since Jacob and I only live 3.5 miles away, we are usually one of the first in line. I saw your pictures, good job for a first time grower. Drive safely and prepare to have a good time.

Last year we had 28 giants. Some years we have more. A couple of hot dry years we had less. Weather around here has been good, so I'm expecting a good turnout. Also top prize has been raised to $4000 to attract more of the big ones.

The GPC page and the event webpage appear to be out of date and do not describe the prize structure to my knowledge? Nice to see $4k up for grabs! If people don't know, might not be helpful? Unless I look in the wrong places, that could be too!! Should be a great turnout!
