Pumpkin show again slated for fairgrounds

On Oct. 16 and 17, South Jersey's annual Pumpkin Show will once again come to the fairgrounds on Carmel Road and this year's fair is expected to be filled with food, fun and entertainment for all who attend.
Space is still available for the show and more people can still be added, she said.
"One of the new events is the women's cast iron skillet toss," Bailey said. "Women (ages 18 and older) will throw skillets underhand and they get three chances to throw it the furthest."
The idea originated from the Salem County Fair and Bailey said she has a lot of fun taking part in the event there.
"We had so much fun, it was a good time," she said. "This contest is Saturday at 3 p.m. and it is free to enter. All who take part get ribbons and prizes."
On Sunday, fair-goers can enjoy all things pumpkin during a bake-off competition.
"The judging begins at 11 a.m. and, afterward, all the desserts brought will be put on plates for people to enjoy," Bailey said.
During the two-day event, residents can also enjoy and take part in a scarecrow contest, a haunted baby stroller parade, the little miss pumpkin show and a Halloween costume contest and parade.
Of course, no pumpkin show would be complete without a display of the county's largest pumpkin pie and pumpkin.
Again, this year's pumpkin show will take place on Oct. 16 and 17 at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds on Carmel Road.
General Admission is $2. Seniors can enter for $1 and kids three and under are free.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Millville Thunderbolt Baseball Club.
