No, not purposely....still believe there is a big bang in weight to achieve in crossing these two.

Sounds like a lazy seed, like me at times..lol Still a weigh gain is achievable with crossing ...and here is why:see my H3 diary.

I originally got my seed from Quarry Farm Gourds and it was the large pecan shape. From it I grew the 155 Nieuwenhoff which grew the 135 Nieuwenhoff. I have a couple of the 155's and 135's left as well two of the original ones from Quarry Farm. If I can get one of them germinated I plan to cross it with the 279.5 English and reverse. If they are two very distinct lines there should be some advantage to crossing the two.

Your are right PS. Quarry farms' bought out Rocky Ford Gourds, taking all their inventory. Carolina Gourds & Seed supplied Rocky Ford Gourds with many of their GNB gourd seeds (about 5000)in 3 years. The GNB gourd seeds are from WR Wright line. So, with the English and your 155/135 your are set. Also before the buyout Quarry Farms began to product GNB seeds for Rocky Ford Gourds.

That State Up North

I crossed the two a long time ago; pollinated a nigerian strain from Waterman (120lb stock) with Hurley's seed the large pecan type(which is much cooler. Plant that I used to pollinate produced three gourds 168,161, and another 100+. The waterman seed didn't perform well and I never got to try out the hybrid, I am now too far north for the bushel gourd project. The English line seems very promising and crossed with the best of the other line would be great
