So here is my idea, the people that win HD awards at the sites get a picture taken with there fruit. All these pictures are put on BP and the growers click what one they like best and that person end of the year is the winner!

Sound good?

Cameras would have to be calibrated to the same standard for accurate color. Time of day and latitude also complicate matters. Not to mention air pollution and surroundings.

You can calibrate a scale but it is impossible to calibrate subjectivity. I for one have grown for 19 years and just like to grow orange because it makes me happy. I understand everyone likes a contest, but when it comes to "prettiest" there is no concrete measurement to use. Those of us who have grown for years also understand that too many times politics rather then beauty was a larger part of one pumpkin being awarded over another. Every year I garden I say my thanks to Howard and am always honored if my fruit wins any award. But I worry that trying to bring back a world wide HD winner would drag this wonderful tribute to a great man through more controversy than good.

Why not start out small and build from that. Next year's HD winners can post here and the winner is the BP HD winner, not national, not GPC, just a winner among like minded people who frequent this site.

The weighoff site's Howard dill award winners get posted in the Howard dill club diary page on this website. You'll know if you're an international finalist when the bubble requests start showing up in your mailbox. Anyone who needs more than that has an ego problem.

A picture never tells the true story.. I think these things have to be judged on site.. An international HD award would become a giant popularity contest.. This is just an opinion, but it is mine..And because it is mine doesn't make it any better than anyone else..

Here is a somewhat less subjective idea. Judge the color of the pumpkin from an easily obtained free paint chip.

I say lets just keep it at each site but lets try to get each site to identify their HD winner and post a picture of it.
Maybe a column could be added in CPC results designating HDA.
