I grow a orange pumpkin and one for heavy. I am adding the 1538Jutras15 for size to my orange genetics next year.

The 359 Foss (1048 Engel x2009 Wallace) has thrown very big and very orange. The 1533 Haist 2015 might be the biggest grown from the 359 (359 x self). It was also very tall and a nice orange. I'd like to see someone cross that into one of the classic orange seeds like you mention above.

Also, I still like anything 1317 to add size and orange to a genetic line.

I'm going to grow a 1444 Halverson: 1731 McConkie x 1937 Clementz, and pollinate it with my 1047.5 McWilliams: 359 Foss x self. Lots of orange with some 2009 genetics thrown in for size. I plan to self my 1047.5 for a couple more generations.

I like to look at what has worked before.

The 359 Foss and 1317 Clementz have both done well producing big and orange offspring. It depends on each person's definition of big and orange though.

359 Foss(1048 Engel X 2009 Wallace)
1317 Clementz(1495 Stelts X 2009 Wallace)

It seems the female in both crosses is where most of the orange comes from in the offspring(though I cant prove it), and the 2009 Wallace(male) is known for producing large size/weight pumpkins. Therefore it seems that using the 811 or 1059(very good choices for orange IMO) as the female, and using something with great size potential for the male, would be something to consider. If the male had both great size potential, and good orange potential, that would be the better IMO(for the orange part). The 1317 Clementz would be a very good one to consider as the male(if you have or can obtain one). You can look at the suggestions above as well. I'm not sure yet, but I'm considering using the 1734.5 Clementz as a pollinator.

It seems most of the others responses could be alluding to the same breeding objective. Of course there could be other ways to get where you want to go.

I should ask, when you state "heavy" do you mean thick walls(heavy to the chart), or a "heavy" overall weight?

The 1177 is the the big sleeper here it has the color shape & genectics to grow a 2000 lb Orange beauty that will look like a pumpkin.Maybe not as purdy as a 1100 lber or 800 lber. But I dont think we can get to 1 ton and keep the super smooth look & feel. The 1734 was about as smooth as they get at that weight level.I understand & respect the Howard Dill seed lines of the past are far prettier but not sure if they will grow 2000lbs. However that may not be every ones goal. The growers I have talked to Heavy hitters say.Oh you have given up & are going orange instead. No I havent given up on anything.I have set a goal to grow a WR orange possible HD winner. If the 800 lbers dont show up & beat me out of the HD.lol that day.Dont hate me fellas just trying to do what Howard was trying to do 30 years ago.Well thats right he did it several times!!Heres to Howard Dill!!!
