What seeds that are out there do you know of that produced a red or red/orange pumpkin? I would like to grow some almost red ones for display at my fall stand.

If you are looking for something just for display Cinderella is the reddest. I toyed with a Cinderella cross a while back. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=58776

Thats the color I am looking for. I just want to get it in a nice round shape. The 1048 Engel is probably the closest I have seen to what I want but i am sure there are probably other ones out there I should be considering. I have some Cinderella AG crosses also that were the right color but when I have crossed them with round i generally end up with an Acorn shaped progeny.

The 250 House 14 Cinderella was the right color but when i planted it I got acorn shaped. I would love to get this color in a round pumpkin. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=231766

I was thinking of Paul Rys.
Here's a link to a picture of a pumpkin grown from one of his seeds:

Looks like the Rys seeds produced some red beauties. Most of the information and pictures are several ( 10 or so) years old so it looks like they would be hard to come by.

Paul R. has sent me all his orange crosses agteacher Shoot me an email and I'll send you anything you need. I only plant them for Halloween pumpkins. There're all 200 to 500 at the biggest and bright orange.

Chris - keep me in mind if you have any seeds for pumpkins that produce dark orange, smooth, taller than wider pumpkins. The wife is on my case to grow perfect carvers. Thanks Tom. swain2266@yahoo.com

Chris, I have not given my cinderellas the attention they deserve as far as varified crosses. I got a couple Cinderella x AG seeds in 2013 and it produced a nice 146 pound cinderellas that was open. The next year the 146 produced three nice cinderellas ( 175, 233, 250) The 233 was supposed to be a 146 x field cinderella cross so I went with that seed in 2015 expecting a good line of cinderella. Instead I got mostly acorn shaped pumpkins. I still have one cinderella x AG seed and will cross it with my 146 from 2013. I will see what this does.

I was checking out you diary and was wondering if you might have a red/orange seed with the 811 in it that you would be willing to part with. I am trying to pursue Big N Orange instead of Big. I have seeds to trade if you want. thoff0928@gmail.com

Put a picture of the offspring of the 128 Rys seed that Chris sent me in my diary. I now have some great red /orange genetics to work with.

All of Rys seeds have that deep dark red going back 25 years. 200 to 400 pounds is all he's ever cared about and has been doing the same crosses over and over again to achieve this color. If I see him at half moon bay this year I'll see what else he's been working on the past couple years and let you know Joe.:)
