When do you start leaving them uncovered and for how long?

I’ve been covering during the day with a white bed sheet. I have 2 of 3 pumpkins looking like they will go orange. Should those two start to get some sun to help orange them up?

Not until September and only during day light hours. If the pumpkin is truly orange the sun is not a huge factor.

Agreed, color comes from the seed not the sun. Sun will just age the pumpkin and slow the growth.

My 816 is dark orange already and has not seen any light. I'll let it get some sun in September as mentioned above to get the deep red look.

My experience...Too much sun will fade them but indirect light does help.

We keep ours covered with a sheet under a tarp hut all season. Picking and stopping growth can make an orange pumpkin darker orange but not a good strategy if its still growing.
