What is the reddest AG you know of or have seen. As always I am looking to put more red in my orange. Ones that I know of are the 982 Trychta 16, 858.9 Karkos 16, 681 Gansert 18, my 359.5 House, 248 Rahe 17, and the 128 Rys. Would appreciate being pointed in the direction of other really red AG's.

I decided plain old orange is good enough for me. 1103 zaychkowski was one that had a lot of color... Not a great pic on the fanatic site. The progeny I grew was a more typical orange. For a big reddy pumpkin 1103 is probably the most color i have seen. Probably didnt get eddys name exactly. If you are looking for a seed that might have good color I have one I can send. I doubt it would be fire engine red but... Worth a try maybe.

Here were my two reddest. One was off the 1302 Zuhlke and the other was the 1030 DeBacco. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=77646 http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=265796
I still have seeds from the 677 ( from back in 07), every year I contemplate giving it a shot because of it's color.

Joe, The 1229.5 Seelow really impressed me for the red color. It won the HDA at Freidrichs Farm Weighoff in RI?? I seen it in his garden and have never seen one that red before. The pictures from the weighoff doesn't do the pumpkin justice for the redness. You know he was going up against some heavy hitters in the New England area for ORANGE. If you're interested and if Wayne doesn't have any to part with...I can spare a couple for you. Maybe somebody that was at the contest can chime in on redness..Norm?..or anybody else.

Thank you Joe. I know you've been going for red for a number of years now, so to be on your "red list" is an honor :)
900 Gansert was the 982's mom, so there's certainly potential in that one as well. I believe Norm had a different phenotype from the same in the same year though, so not sure how often it goes red?

I was thinking of crossing a cinderella pumpkin seed with a 2624 X self seed to make a giant red pumpkin in 2020. Maybe do the same with a porcelain doll and jarrahdale pumpkin. I'll be growing the 2624 X self seed in 2020.

I also have some jarrahdale seed that produced green pumpkins. Maybe crossing with the 2624 X Self would create a nice big green squash.

I talked with Paul years ago, nice guy. He wanted me to travel to his place to pick up seed but I couldn't. Does anyone have seeds from his line? I'd like to grow that too agteacher. I grew a near fire engine red pumpkin a while ago but it didn't throw the same color.

Wile..it takes a while to normalize. If you cross a winter squash with an AG you end up with a 300lb hybrid. it is a crap shoot on what characteristics they will keep. I had some pretty cool turks turbin x AG crosses that would give you the turks turbin color/shape and about 125lbs of squash. Bill Foss has some Red Kuri x AG that make awesome carvers/sculpting pumpkins.

It's funny that you mention Turk's Turban. I was going to add that plant to my JOL plants that I was going to pollinate with 2624 X self pollen.
The shell on my green Jarrahdale was think and dense. I should cross it with a 2118 or 1807 squash to see if I end up with a heavier squash.
I should self all my crosses a couple of times just to see what I end up with.

You would need to cross them over several years to normalize them. Even doing that you are never going to achieve the primary characteristic of the 2642 for size and weight.
