Orangies- I'm putting the final touches on an article focused on color inheritance in atlantic giant. Research led me to one Dr. Paris, who has published on color genes in cucurbits. In our correspondence, he has mentioned that the red gene for color is likely dominant to the blue/green gene. I've think we've seen this happen before where a supposed "squash" seed threw a bright red orangie. Got me thinking....could we cross a robust red with a Jutras/Holub whopper greenie to combine size and color with the expectation that offspring will be big and red? hmmmmm

Yes it is dominant. As in dominant over green.

Every time you talk of a dominant or a recessive, you need to reference what it is dominant to.

But it is better to say that green is recessive to the orange. Why this is important, as in AG , it is not a single gene trait. There are modifiers, and there is the 'mute " gene at play as well.

The mute gene is dominant to both green abd orange. It is a modifier of both orange and green. So when present in one dosage, you have pale orange, or pale green.

A few other modifier genes I have not teased out enough details on.

But basically yes, cross a dark orange with a dark green. I have been doing this for a few generations now.

Interesting Joze. I have long wondered about the relationship between dark orange and dark green. A friend of mine grew a 670 Daigle seed many years ago and wound up with a dark green squash. He thought he had been duped. Just look at Brotherdaves diary over the years. He has grown a few bright orange pumpkins that he thought were going to be squash.
I don't know if you can get a dark orange pumpkin from a light colored squash.(most squampkins are a lighter color) It seems to me from what I have seen is the squash has to have very pure squash genetics to get the occasional dark orange pumpkin.

Perhaps Brotherdave or Bathhabitat will chime in with what they have seen,

That statement agrees with what I have observed. You guys can hash out the science of what is going on genetically. Too me that is like when Charlie Brown's teacher talks. LOL
