I also have a question about the secondary at the base of the stem. It almost looks like it is part of the stem. Want to let it grow and deadhead it hoping it will go right back into kin. Don;t remember one that close or into the stem before. Thoughts?

Might want to leave that secondary and consider whether you'll becable to move the main or if the main itself needs choped... Looks like it will need a bit more vine space on the left side

Kin can be moved easily on a young plant...that will be moved but my question was is the secondary feeding directly to kin because it is part of it. Secondary is not a problem and I won't need to cut anything and if I do I'll know when.

I'm always wondering the same thing. I think the most truthful answer is you can do whatever you want as long as the the brix at the pumpkin is high and you've got enough calcium and micronutrients flowing to it.

Thats the technical truth of it. In practical terms, the plant should be well fed and about half the growth terminated. Once you have a well fed plant with about half the growth terminated it should give a good result, regardless of which exact vines you leave or keep.

Looks like pumpkin went sideways or rolled over as it was landing and twisted stressing the stem it might be a bit to twisted. And cause trouble but hopefully not if its your keeper
