Is there any research into percentages caused by genetics vs calcium?

spudder- Since pumpkins are not high on the economic importance list there are not many studies getting into the question you pose. Most of the genetic germplasm focus has been on disease resistance (for good reason). We are pushing the limits here so under normal conditions those that split rot and the genetics are not passed on to future generations.

This is why I do not save seeds from a split pumpkin as the goal is to select against this trait, which I think we have seen in giant pumpkins as back in the day the orange pumpkins seemed to have greater odds of blossom end splits, but through selection this is less of an issue.
