I've only reached the end of the tape twice in all my years. Good job Russ and can't wait to see the final results!!

I'm already planning next year as this year was a bust with disease getting me again....

Keep um going!

Dad was one of the first to measure pumpkins back in the day, he used a livestock tape originally he had on hand when he use to buy cattle. Wrap it around front shoulders of a cow I believe and get the girth to estimate the weight. Still have it this very day goes to 108 inches. And it too was based on results from various data compiled just like pumpkins until enough results gave us our tables as a guide today.

Too funny, just imagine a rancher measuring their calf every 10 days to see how many pounds its putting on per day.

Actually ketchup I wouldn't be surprised if some ranchers/farmers still do with a prized stock for steer sales at Fairs. Rate of gain, genetics, etc big business in beef industry!

They've got us beat. The largest bull is 3,800+. Can you imagine if one of these pumpkins had four legs and a tail... plus an extra 1k. I think Vineman's diary is a no bull zone... so I've said enough! Lol.

Well truth to be told those old cattle tapes were good up to about 2,000 lbs back in the day. For cows mostly don't think many farmers tried measuring a bull for estimated weight? Lol all interesting though.
