I didnt know lucerne is also alfalfa or that the word alfalfa is arabic... The science is interesting too.

I didn't know that either. I don't know much about alfalfa, not much is grown in this state. Years ago dairy farmers would grow it. There are very few dairy farms left in the state. I knew this old dairy farmer, he lived to be almost 100. I used to like to go and talk to him, One time I asked him how he grew corn before the advent of commercial fertilizer. He told me he would grow alfalfa for a few years, then he would heavily manure it and turn it under. Then plant his corn crop. He said the corn had plenty of Nitrogen and he grew some great crops.
