Yep I've heard all this as well. Going between 4 and 6ppm for Boron is considered borderline toxic for just about every other plant. But in the case of these AG's...they're just using it up....plus the leech out you mentioned. I started using more Borax last year but since I lost both my plants to disease I wasn't able to see the results. I know a lot of newer growers tend to go with the recommended numbers but those are all very conservative estimates by the heavy hitters.

Dave, do you also apply the solubor in your overhead misting system or just by drip? I also upped the boron levels over the past few years but I don’t do monthly soil analysis like Dr. Chan, I guess I better get on that.

Dave, thanks for the write up! I’ll be shooting for ~5ppm this yea. Additionally I’ve seen 1000:1 calcium:boron ratio suggested before. Would you mind sharing the solubor dosage when using drip?

My fert mixes are done in a 45 galon drum with about 40 gallons of water. About every 2 wks I add 2 tablespoons of solubor into the mix and pump it through the drip irrigation.
The following are the boron levels on the varios analysis dates.
Mar 4 1.40 initial before amendments
May 15 3.03
June 24 3.46
July 26 7.43 during this period not 1 bad thing happened
Sept 19 3.51
Oct 25 3.55
As you can see, I try for 5 but am cautious with adding solubor. It ended up being around 3.5 ppm average.
