Hi! It's a great experiment, I also have old seeds, tell me, did you pre-soak them somehow?

I think I did I brief dip in some dilute hydrogen peroxide. Later, actually dug the 1195 back out of the ground, stripped the seed shell off rewashed it with dilute h202 and replanted it with the (still white) cotyledons halfway out of the ground...
It sounds complicated, but this is the method that has always worked and really its not that difficult.
Its doing better now, its alive but it will be 1-3 weeks behind the others.

I should add a disclaimer that I only use h202 because my well water is not chlorinated. If you're using chlorinated or distilled water then there's probably no real need to sterilize anything. What I'm really sterilizing is the water, not the seed.
But, maybe it also helps to sterilize the seed? I'm not sure...

Thanks, I get it. I usually always soak the seeds in peroxide for half an hour. After all, peroxide not only disinfects, but also stimulates, as far as I know. I read that many people use algae to soak seeds.

Yep, the extra oxygen cant hurt. It probably stimulates them a bit, and it should provide a bit of protection against any anaerobic conditions that might arise.
