My profound belief is that any discoloration/dying away/etc. of the leaves is cause by the rest of the plant using up the nutrients in that leaf/ves to facilitate further gorwth otherwise, ever since Little Ketchup announced that possibility, for credit's sake. I did not realize, ever, and never wondered why leaves on trees do the same thing every Fall. How to 'correct' or mitigate, I do not have any clue, but nothing to worry about (yet) concerning the whitening of the stalks, although maybe a deeper concern is indicated. DWAI = Don't Worry About it. Imagine anyone saying that to you at a roadblock, lol. Sorry about your rotated photos. If it helps, you can do a Site Search for photo orientation and see some comments about it. Keep dreaming the dream! eric g

I dont know for sure, but I think your soil test and the visual cues may indicate a struggle with phosphorus and manganese.

These probably aren't the exact reason for the white stalk, but it's a starting point. Adequate manganese is associated with green leaf veins. Did you add manganese since the soil test? In what form?

I had added manganese sulfate in a granular form. Dissolved it into water before sprinkling it over the plot. Currently I have been feeding my pumpkins with Plant Marvel 12-31-14 twice a week in a watering can and Wow 5-2 humic/fulvic + seaweed extract once a week also in a watering can or foliar spray.
Also, here is what I did add after I got my soil test results that Ron Wallace recommended and stuff that I was already going to add: 3lbs of Osmocote 14-14-14 slow release, 12lbs of kelp meal, 2 lbs of humic/fulvic acid, 3lbs of mono ammonium phosphate 11-52-0, 6lbs of potassium sulfate 0-0-50, copper sulfate 26grams, solubor 6grams, and manganese sulfate 204grams. Last three were dissolved in one gallon of water to sprinkle over the plot easier than deep tilled it all in.

Excellent. Although there could still be some nutrient tie ups. I do think the manganese might not be deep enough or available to the plant yet. If this is the case, then it is a matter of patience, (it might take a month to reach the roots, or for the soil biology catch up). Or if impatient (hitting it with a foliar spray of chelated manganese). I'm only going to give you 20% odds that I'm correct maybe someone else will chime in with a higher level of confidence. I think these nutrient challenges are fun even though it gets dangerous to be more than 80% sure about anything.

John Kempf (agronomy guru) did a whole spiel about how manganese sulfate will not enter the plant. Not in a timely manner anyhow. So there can be a disconnect between what we add and what the plants will actually uptake. I'm guilty all the time of adding things to the soil surface and calling it done. Later I realize the plant still isnt getting or benefitting from what I added. Sports metaphor... If I want to get on base then it's not enough to just swing the bat, I also have to hit the ball. It can be a frustrating game.

I did till it in to a depth of about 6.5 to 7†deep, but we haven’t received an adequate amount of rain. I did add 2.5 lbs of mycorrhizal. I feed it with Root once every two weeks and Terra Trove Sp-1 once every week.
