New grower just wondering if lightning bugs pose any threat to my plants. I went outside last night and there are literally hundreds of these visible at the same time...flying around everywhere. Never seen so many.

Fireflies aka lightning bugs as larva (glow worms) feed on snails, slugs and earthworms. as adults they are thought to feed on pollen and nectar, but this is not factual known some believe they don't eat at all as adults? and some are cannibals using their lights to attract males of different species by mimmicking their light flashing pattern then consuming them

We get a pretty good crop of lightning bugs here every season and have never seen any plant damage. Best of luck!

We had a very large population these past couple years & hope to see them again this year. They don't bother pumpkins.

Thanks for the info. The only camera I have at this point is an el-Cheapo disposable. I will try pics and see what happens.
