My largest pumpkin (156 lbs) has developed very small cracks that run around the pumpkin. These are located near the stem on the pumpkins shoulders, they are about 1 cm long, 1 mm wide and .5mm deep. Some of these on the undersurface of the shoulders are weeping a small amount of clear sticky "sap". The pumpkin looks good otherwise, no signs of any infections ect. It is growing about 10 lbs a day. I will place Captan on the surface of the pumpkin and stem but is this normal and does anyone have any other suggestions. I placed a photo of these in the photo gallery but they do not show up very well.

I would say normal, keep using captan paste and keep pumpkins dry.

I would also say this is pretty much normal, i am a first time grower, and on almost all of my pumpkins so far they have all had small (sudden growth cracks i suspect) they are, and also on some stems, but they usually heal over fairly well and i havent even used any captan on them, just havent had time, so captan would prabably be good otherwise i wouldent loose sleep over it.
