On one of my pumpkin plants, the vine is like folding down and creasing. The crease is perpendicular to the vine direction of growth. It is hard to explain, especially since my camra is not working. It is only happening on 1 of my four plants. All of the vine is on the ground and it is almost 6ft long and still growing. The plant has two creases one at 8in. out and another about 1.5 feet from the stump. No more past those two. They are fairly new any I did not do them to my knowledge. At the end of each crease the vine is spliting. I really dont want to get rid of the plant. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do or should I just not worry about it.

I have noticed a similar occurrence on one of my plants. I left a 1/2 gallon jug with the bottom cut out around the plant too long. I think the weight of the growing vine just kinked it. Glad it didn't snap off! I've been giving it a little tug each day and anchoring with bamboo sticks to try and stretch it out. Be carefull and go slow!

The advise I got with the same issue, was to take a strip of cloth paste one side with Captan fungicide, and wrap it around loosely around the split, and bury the vine. After 3 weeks plant is still going strong with plenty of females on the main. Captan Fungicide can be found at Southern States. its a wetable powder, and wear latex gloves while useing it, and wash up when done. Grow'em big Kev.
