inspecting plants early this morning saw what looke to be a bee flying around the vine of my fave plant it landed for only a sec red wings the size of a small bee fast moving thing when it took off im done for right it was and svb i have seen pics but this thing moved too fast for me to swat at it i have seen close up pics but anyone know of a pic of what the thing would look like from 2-3 feet does it look like a bee and bright red wings and if it is am i done for the season this is the first time i saw anything like that would of missed it if not for fear of bees and the red wings short stubby thing any help would be appreciated and of course if it was then what to do now?????

Should be larger than a honey bee. About the size of a large wasp.

im just going nuts should not be in the sun so long thats what i thought, this thing was the size of a small bee and it had red wings and a black body thanks for the help

their wings are black, not red. their body is orange and black.

Inspect the vine for the egg pattern ..or bore holes with frass...early detection now...and all is not lost. GrowEmBig! Chuck

Vine Squash Borer is what you saw, kill that thang...Yeserday, inspecting my zucchini and there it was, thanks to my hubby, dead as a doornail. Third one so far.
