I have green spots forming on my pumpkin skin. Is this a threat to my pumpkin, and is there anything I can do to allow my pumpkin to mature? This is the largest pumpkin I have grown to date, and don't want to lose it. I have a structure covering the pumpkin to prevent excessive sun from reaching the pumpkin to prevent it from maturing early. This pumpkin measures about 500 pounds and is the largest I have grown to date, so I do not want to lose it.
Thanks for any help, DLR

Could be genetics. What seed are you growing?

I wouldn't worry about it unless its moldy or slimy. It's probably genetics like Steve said. A few years ago, I had one that had cantalouping on its surface. When I carved it, every canalouped spot had green flesh underneath it. It was weird.

Tremor: The seed was from a Bobier 845 X 723.
Brigitte: Thanks for your reply.

That expains it then. These are great genetics for big ugly heavy fruit. But consistant orange color isn't a strongpoint(Thanks George).
Grow well. Those are good genetics!
Do keep an eye out for soft spots, but greening here & there in streaks & patches are often normal with this genetic set. Look more toward the stem end for green.
