Rather than turning woodchucks into woodchunks via rifle (neighbors would have me in jail by dinner) I purchased a product at Lowes called Sweeney's Poison Pellet Peanuts. Has anyone ever had any luck with this product? Pa. state prohibits trapping and re-releasing so that is not an option. Any other ideas ?

220 conibear trap... i used to be a licensed nusaince animal control trapper and have caught probably 500 to 600 groundhogs in these wonderful little traps, just set it, place it over the hole, they come snooping out and whamo!!! it kills them instantly no wiggling flopping or pain. just be careful about house pets. if pets are nearby a 1/16 steel cable snare will work just the same.. only you will need to shoot them after they are caught.

I've had 100% success with this meathod of control.Take one of those auto flares that you keep in the trunk for when you break down.Ignite it and throw it into the tunnel. Then cover the hole with and big rock and then cover that with soil. The flares don't require oxygen to burn and will completely fill all the chambers and tunnels with smoke.

we tried pouring gas down into the holes one time and lighting it...well as you guessed the next hole we poured it in connected with the first and it blew up and shot out like a cannon knocking us to the ground.. thats when we went back to the .22-250's

I've also had 100% success with the road flares. It was amusing to see little puffs of smoke coming up all over the yard

we use them on pocket gophers here in MN. Be warned though, dogs love them also if they can dig them out. We lost one and two others to the vet from eating the peanuts.Steve
