The end of last week I found my first wilted plant of the 2006 season. I pulled it and sent it to the University of Missouri for a diagnosis. I just posted a picture in the photo gallery. Take a look when it passes the review process and see what you think. When I hear back from the lab I'll post their diagnosis here. There's not really much I can tell you about the plant. The vine was just shy of 2 feet long. The soil had been treated with grubex about a month before. I've been using esfenvalerate to help control the squash bugs and cucumber beetles. The wilt happened overnight. One day the plant looked great, the next it looked like this. I know the soil looks very dry but I have a high clay content and it tends to crust over on the top and stay moist below the surface. I hope none of you are greeted by this sight one morning when you visit your patch, it's a terrible thing to see.

Mark- sorry but it does look like bateria wilt to me- from the squash bugs or Cucumber beetles. I had bateria wilt take over my patch in 2003 from squash bugs - looks somewhat the same as you're experiencing. only my plants were bigger.

Gordon, I was thinking along the same lines, either bact. wilt from the cucumber beetles or cucurbit yellow vine disease from the squash bugs. I've had tons of both. But I got the report back today, it's phytophthora. Mark
