i have a lot of carpeter type ants crawling around my patch, will they do harm to the plant later on?

Pumpkins are usually to big to carry off and get into anthole...Just kidding D..I think with a good regimen of sevin they won't come near the plant. I've never had the problem..One of the big guys should chime in if they've seen ants attack pumpkins!

Don't think they'll bother your AG's. Carpenter ants like damp wood, locate that, and you'll probably find their nest.

look and see if the ants are eating other pests that dont belong they do that

Carpenter ants aint no problem for pumpkins, it's the smaller ones that might indicate a problem which would be aphids, ants have a symbiotic relationship with aphids, they provide the aphids with protection and also relocate them and in turn they milk the aphids like cattle for a sugar-like substance.

Fire Ants have caused me a lot of problems in the past. They kept eating my plants and building nests in my patch. But I took care of them and have not had any problems yet this year.
