I have something that is eating mostly the stems of the leaves on my pumpkin. I will post a picture of the damage for everyone to see. Maybe somebody can tell me what I'm dealing with. I have squirrels that run threw my yard all the time but I've never caught them in the act so I don't know if it's them or not. Do squirrels eat stems or suck the water out of them? I tried a tip I got from the new growers forum where you put out water for them to drink but it doesn't seem to be working. Everyday there is more damage. The damage has been limited to the secondaries for now thank god. I just read in this forum that the water should be placed away from the patch. Will that make a difference? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Has anybody ever heard of critter ritter? And if so is the stuff effective? I called my local garden centre and they suggested that I use it. I'm not to sure if we even have wood chucks in this area. Never seen one before.

It sounds like Glenn Andrews has been on the road. You might lure him into a box trap with a greasy cheeseburger or a head of cabbage. Consult your local nuisance varmint control officer for a suitable release area. Tibet should be far enough.

Raccoon, coyote and fox urine is a good repellent for small animals. I use a 6 strand electric fence to keep the deer and other critters out. And when all else fails, a .22 magnum with a 7 power scope settles things permanently.

Iowegian: Have you ever accidentally shot a pumpkin? Have you ever heard of anyone accidentally shooting a pumpkin when they wanted to shoot that squirrel, groundhog, etc..?

Well I caught the little bastard today and guess what it was? It was a grey squirel. The same little bastard that has been running threw my yard all summer. Also Critter Ridder does not work at all. I applied the stuff liberally all over my garden and around the perimeter and it turns out that I wasted my money and time on that shit product. So now I will be trapping the bastard. This is going to have to be a covert operation because my neighbours are all bleeding hearts.
