Does anyone know if merit is applied to a pumpkin patch, can edible plants be planted in the same place the following year? Or, is there a residual of this product that remains in the soil making it contaminated for edibles?

from what I've seen...merit does not translocate to the fruit.

Merit stays active in soil for 60-120 days depending on many factors. Less on leaves when foliar applied. None of it ever translocates to the fruit. If you do use Imidacloprid for any edible fruits or vegetables then refer to the appropriate label (Admire probably) for the "days to harvest" instructions.

Ok...heres one....if I spray merit on the tops of my leaves and it is absorbed into the pllant to act systemicly.....will the bugs feeding on the underside of the leaf I just sprayed die.....with a young growing leaf? and with an older done-growing leaf?

The older leaves translocate very poorly if at all. The new one's readily absorb & move imidacloprid.

Tremor, when you said to refer to days to harvest, were you refering to the PHI (days) listed on the label?

If I read the msds and label correctly it said not to plant anything edible until 12 months after the last application. I appreciate everyones help... I seem to be learning way to much here..... Problem is there is only so much time in the day to absorb it all!!!!! LOL

Growler,
Now that you read the Label & MSDS for Merit you have the "OFFICIAL" word from Bayer & the Feds.
Now read the label & MSDS for Admire. Believe it or not, the tech material for Merit & Admire come right off the same line. Label laws being what they are, I'm not going to tell you to violate federal pesticide laws. The label is the law. Since both products are 100% identical, I now leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Page 9 has the edible cucurbit data. The PHI is 21 days.
