I have noticed that one of my fruits on my squash plant has benn turning yellow and is not growing at all. Should I remove it from my patch or should I leave it alone?

I removed the squash from my patch today it still had a little bit of a shine but not a lot. It was also starting to get soft so I got rid of it , but I did have a pretty good time busting it open it had seeds and everything and it did not have an odor but I still don't think it would have grown any.
