I have seen a couple growers who seen to be experiencing early arrival of cuke beatles. Is this a result of the warm winter and should we adjust the pesticide schedules? Pest degree days anyone? Tremor?

I lay clear plastic on the ground to heat the soil up before planting. I bake it pretty good, and I have a feeling that's why my beatles seem to be hatching out earlier than most.

Don Young has been getting hammered in Iowa. Merit & Warrior together & he has dead bodies an inch deep! Great organic fertilizer but.....
My concern is that bacterial wilt or a virus may be transmitted before the insecticides have finish the CB's off. Keep in mind that even the best insecticides need to be INGESTED for the targeted pest to die.
When pressure is this severe, it might be wise to also employ a repellent like Garlic Barrier just to reduce the numbers of "diners". Floating row covers would help too.

Steve isn't there two cycles of cucumber beatles. 1st hatch and breeding. Then followed up by the second hatch and larval stage for winter?

Andy, you know i use clear plastic to kill weeds but its not down yet, soon. I understand why your soil could be warn and early cuke beatles but why Don? Will be interesting to see when they show up here.

its been a war here against them for sure i have had to stand guard in patch with stihl blower as they fly in hundreds and hundreds at a time i knock down in mid air with spray i have to keep misters on all afternoon to keep from burning leaves . yes mid day sun and spraying i know bad time but no choice 2 days of spraying right in sun but with wet leafs non stop misters till sun sets and no adverse chemical damage to plants- that was last 2 days today they came again i found garlic barrier at garden place here in town i blasted whole back yard -they left no cuke beetles . it works. i will now be using this as a spray just like my insectice fungicide rotation . i just never seen so many and so early- i do have big 12 foot plants and no other gardens planted around could be why i got big invasion
