Ok this picture is not clear but bare with me. I was in my patch today and noticed this bug can anyone tell me what is could be. A little description. It did not fly and is all black near it's head and the rest of the body is red. The body is long .Thanks if anyone can help

It looks like a box elder nymph to me.

JRO got it. It's a Box Elder Bug nymph. As they age most of the red gets covered up by the wings that the nymphs don't yet have.

They are mostly a problem indors in the fall when they're trying to get in out of the cold. In theory they only eat Box Elder tress but if you note any feeding on the pumpkins I'd like to see pictures
