My main fruit is on day 21 now. It has been growing roughly 4" a day and is now 68 inches. The problem is that in the last 24h it only grew 2" in circumference. This is more than half as much as usual. The day before it grew 3.5 which was still less than normal. Now, I checked this morning because I am worried, and in the 8 hours overnight, it grew 1.5 inches already.
The pumpkin does look a little dull (as opposed to shiny), but it did grow 1.5" in 7 hours last night. Does this just mean it had a bad day and will be fine? I hope it didnt abort.
Thanks

Jordan: It could just be the cooler nights we have been having.

The tape might have slipped too.
It's a good idea to measure at the same time of day every time to avoid coronary problems.

I always measure at 9:30pm. It has been cooler at night, thats true. My high at night was 57. Usually is 60+. I guess that could be it.

At night that 57 is of course. It was still 75-80 in the day. Perhaps it was temporarily slowed by cold. It will be back into the high 60s and 70s at night now. I guess I will just wait and see.
Thanks

Jordan, What are your other sets doing? I usually can tell growth rates after I measure the first two pumpkins in the patch. Here where I live a 57 degree night is wonderful. I hit 49 last night. When the weather cools down at night our whole patch slows down conciderably. You should really only worry when one of your pumpkins are acting sluggish. I wish you the best of luck. John
