I have a dog named Laya, best dog I ever had, but heres what I do to keep her out of the patch if she gets a little fisty. Before I go into the patch in the morning I will nail boards on all my windows and doors, then I will put 3 inch metal plating over the boards I just nailed up. I recently put in 4 inch solid pipe beside every window and door in the house that I concreated in the ground about 10 ft deep. I then weld the metal plating to the pipe for a secure fit. That way my dog stays inside and cant go into my patch.

My patch is about 800 sq ft. I put in those green stakes that are used for winter fencing. Then I placed heavy duty lattace around and attached to the stakes with wire ties. It was a quick and inexpensive fence that the wife doesn't find too offensive. That keeps my beagle/lab out of the patch.

The geckos are more effective roaming the patch. Yummy SVB's.

My patch is not near the perimeter of my property, so if my dog wants to patrol her borders she doesn't have to trespass. This cuts a lot of my doggie-in-patch problem!
I have a few maurading local small terriers, but a garden hose has been convincing them that they don't want to visit. No digging yet. I have gotten the one that thinks the yard is HIS taken care of by his owner, but the four that visted the other day I have to track who they belong to. (this has to be the ONLY yard in town that has problems keeping dogs OUT of it)
