Subject: What causes a pumpkin to split ( blow up)?

I'm a new grower and have a friend growing. They had one blow up actually split in four pieces. Good fertility in patch. They are dairy farmers. Any thoughts or tips?

Excessive photoassimilate carbohydrates which are produced in the leaves and sent to the fruit and a lack of Calcium in the blossom end of the fruit.
