Sprayed the plant and surrounding soil sunday. Will that help us prevent any problems with root disease dispite the weather we've been having ?

Rootshield that is (was) surface applied needs to be watered in to work so "yes". Soil application must be watered in to work.

I should have mentioned: Application must be made well in advance of seeing disease symptoms. Rootshield has no curative properties & won't be effective under "high pressure" conditions.
