After discovering huge svb grubs late in the season last year I tried to be on the offensive for the 2009 season. However, I've found some within my vines yesterday. Rather then slicing my vines length wise, I scraped the outer edge of the vine enough to find the entrance hole and used a bent paper clip to remove 7 or 8 grubs from two different plants. Although I believe I removed all of them, I used a heavy dose of imidacloprid to keep them at bay. My question is are my measures going to be enough to keep my plants healthy and alive or should I have sliced the areas length wise to make sure I extracted all of them from my two plants? Will a heavy dose of imidacloprid deter any new grubs from actually entering the vines?

Too soon to tell. I have e new neonicitinoid (same chemical class as imidacloprid) that is notoriously faster than Merit but I don't have a test subject.
At $112/lb Safari is not an experiment to be taken lightly.

It won't really deter them from eating the vines, but it will kill them when they try too.

Must they be removed, or could someone just let the Imidacloprid do it's job and leave them dead inside?
