What causes the seeds to sprout inside the pumpkin? I opened my smaller one and this is what I found..

Heat inside the pumpkin get high, and also you may have waited to long to cut open. Just me though.

Looks like alfalfa sprouts only bigger, lol. But ya, I think too much warmth could have something to do with it.

If the pumpkin is displayed where it is warm, this is the inevitable outcome.

I live in Sacramento. We had 90 plus degree temps last week. The pumpkin stopped growing for all intents and purposes around the middle of august due to diseases and bugs. I left them on the vine until 10/03/09. How can I stop this from happening when the climate I live in is just plain hot right up to October? Would it not happen if the pumpkin was still growing?
