Ive read a lot of threads trying to figure this out and Im still questioning myself. I got some "Bayer Advanced, Tree and Shrub concentrate" it says its a systemic insecticide which is what I need and it contains 1.47% imidacloprid that I believe Ive read is good. It has 'merit' on the label, I know its not the same merit that was recommended but its the best I can do for now.
I read a post from Tremor in 2004... ""4 oz of Merit Tree & Shrub per gallon to 500 sq ft. It is advisable to also drench the mound after transplanting so as to ensure the young roots are treated. Otherwise we have to wait for the roots to grow into the sorrounding treated soil before insect control starts.""
is that still the correct amount? My vine is about 5 ft long do I spray under it too? I have Cyonara as a contact spray, do I use it at the same time or wait? I have watermelons growing close by, is it ok to use on watermelons we plan to eat?

Don't use on watermelons or anything you plan to eat.

WOW Six and a half years. Just as accurate today though there are many more generic brands today.

I was digging deep for info! lol I hate to ask questions that have already been asked, but sometimes I read so many posts I confuse myself haha. I was planning to spray today but its pretty windy so I think I'd better wait.
Im sure this is a silly question but I need to know... do I spray the entire patch or just around the vine? My patch is only a little over 500 sq ft. Im thinking I'll have to lay it on mighty thin to cover that area with only one gallon. I'll practice with water first (found that tip on an OLD thread too) haha Thanks again for your help Tim and Tremor, it is greatly appreciated :) Tammy

Interesting post - it's great to have some experts. I statrted some "giants" for Len Stellpflug that he picked up Monday.
He and I both grow acres of regular pumpkins that we sell at our farm stands - he was telling me that he soaks his seeds in Admire (21.4% imidacloprid) before he sows to help with the cuke beetles. It sounds like the FarMore technology that many of the seeds companies are using now.
I thought I might try the Bayer T+S but it is obviously a very diluted solution and also contains 2-1-1 fert. - what do you think? Thanks, Tom
