the recent storms have been wicked in the midwest, but to add insult to injury, with the rains comes slugs. got some new tender leaves chomped on the last couple nights cuz that wet ground is easy to cross over to get to the plants. i have used sluggo with good results. i just picked up some slug magic from bonide at my garden store and will put a solid circle around the plants and throw some under the leaves to and check under my walking boards. just thought i would throw the heads up out there as a reminder.

I have never seen so many slugs as I am seeing this year. They are all through my lawn and my garden in the am.
I did a bayer drench on my ag's a week or two ago, would that kill a slug if he tries to eat the plant ?

Sluggo, anything with metaldehyde, stale beer, sand, diatemaceous earth, even picking them off the bottom of boards.
I've found that metaldehyde bait is very idiot proof.

give em some beer. dig a little hole put a small plastic cup in it so the top is about 3/4 inch above soil and fill with beer. slugs crawl in get drunk and drown. if dogs or cats get into it they may walk a little funny but they will get over it unlike poison.

For small slugs and the the ones that aren't lured into beer traps I use this spray: 1 1/2 cups of ammonia, 1tbsp. Murphy's Oil Soap & 1 1/2 cups of water..Mix together in a hand held spray bottle and spray areas where you see signs of slugs or spray them if you see 'em. Works good.
