Okay, so I've been trying to control these little guys as best I can, but the thought just struck me. What if eggs are on a buried vine and they hatch? Will they go for the buried vine or come up to the surface to look for another?

I may be in deep trouble...

I'd say if they are on a buried vine you took care of the problem already.

Before I bury my vines I spray the vines and leaf stalk bases with insecticide, just in case.
