I have a small soft spot on the stump. its about the size of a nickle. it almost looks rotten. I had a buddy tell me i should cut it out, spray with fungicide, and puton captan. he also suggested i cover the stump to keep it dryer. Is this what should be done or does anyone else have any good ideas.Oh yeah, what is the problem i have called.

Sounds like a type of rot. Everything your buddy said sounds good except covering it. You will want it to dry, so put a fan on it if possible until you have alleviated the problem. Hopefully some more experienced will chime in. Good luck.

P,stein, I think the advice of covering it,is to keep any future moisture from gettin on the stump, and I think that will help...keep it dry!! PS...the cover should be a bit above it, as to allow air flow to help keep it dry. Even somethin simple, a lil plastic table on top, would help! Peace, Wayne
