This sounds like Seed Corn Maggots. You need to treat the planting area with merit or possible Bayer tree and shrub, find a product with the active ingredient Imidacloprid. We offer systemic granules on our website, you may be able to find a product locally, but if you are in NY, I believe it is banned and stores were allowed to sell out of their current stock. I am not familiar with the off the shelf products other than what we offer, but I am sure that others with more knowledge in these products can help. I still have some of the Bonide Houseplant Systemic Insect control with Imidacloprid, or check Ebay for Merit. If you do not treat your planting areas, this is going to happen over and over until your season is over. Tom www.extremepumpkinstore.com
