I have a question. I was out looking at my pumpkins and saw a green worm on the stem. Can someone tell me what this critter is and how to get rid of it. Thanks. ~Ryan

Buzz,
Do you have any "cole" crops nearby? (Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, brussel sprouts.) Without seeing it , it sounds like it could be the offspring of those little white moths you see flying around. I don't think they are any harm to your pumpkins.

No I don't have any of that stuff around. All I have is indian corn, cucumbers, peas, and strawberries. But I saw the worm like eating at a tiny slash in my pumpkin stem. I hope nothing happens to it because it is like almost 40'' round.

sorry to be tardy in my reply, i've been away. i get lots of lime-green worms on my pumpkins and they are pickleworms (diaphania nitidalis for what its worth), something like a cabbage looper. until i found out what they were, i called them 'agent orange bugs' because they can completely defoliate a vine. they are more common here in the southeast, so i don't know if that's what you've got or not. if so, i have used Bt to control them before they take over. good luck.
