I was wondering where these pesky critters lay their eggs, on the leaves or among the roots. Also, do the larve feed on the roots. Have had lots of them and spray sevin to control them, but they keep coming back every couple of weeks. I have never seen a cluster of eggs or any larve from them. Could this cause the pumpkins to stop growing in mid-Aug. Should I be spraying on the ground above the roots as well as the leaves. No other problems with bugs or diseases. Phil from Cameron Ont.

Swiped frpm the Ohio State University fact sheet. ____Begin clip___________________________
Cucumber Beetle Life Cycle and Habits Adult beetles overwinter and leave Their hibernating quarters in the spring when temperatures reach 65 degrees F or more. When cultivated cucurbit plants begin to emerge through the soil surface, large numbers of beetles may suddenly appear and feed on the seedlings or crawl into soil cracks in reach of sprouting seed. Beetles soon mate and continue feeding throughout the season. Eggs are laid 8-25 days after mating. Females deposit 225-800 in small clusters or singly into soil cracks at the base of cucurbit plants. ____end clip________________________________________
OSU has a great list of fact sheets for all sorts of vegetable pests. Here's the one I pirated.

Thanks Steve I appreciate your response on this topic. If the rain ever stops I will spray again with sevin. It's great having an expert on site. Take care and LOL. Phil from Cameron.
