i just saw two svb adults.one hovering here and there. and one just staying on one leaf. i have to order neamatodes yet. is there any quick buy killer spray that i can hit them with? the neamatodes are for ground...do you have to inject each leaf? or can you spray under the leaves????

Most of the really effective SVB insecticdes work on the adults & are contact in MOA. Warrior T & Capture are the 2 best. Both are EC's so they work very fast. Astro/Pounce should knock them out of the sky too.
Merit when soil applied will control the borer in the vines but may take up to 10-14 days to reach them. (though will last for at least 90 days)
Yes to injecting contacts or systemics into the borer holes if you can find them. Once inside the plant, our choices are limited to waiting on systemics or injecting the borer gallies diractly.
Fun, fun, fun!

Merit applied through the leaf will travel at the rate of one foot per hour. I feel that a lower level of application done two or three days in a row will reach the SVB much more quickly than if soil applied. It is to late to achieve soil contact with the adult that excaped your efforts in the first place. I see no difference in the value of treatment just that it gets to the bore. Merit was or is designed to be fed through the leaves.
I would be interesting to hear Stephen's thoughts on this.
