I WENT TO MY FAVORITE STORE(LOWE'S) TO FIND A PRODUCT TO DEAL WITH SQUASH VINE BORERS THE OTHER DAY AND WAS TOLD BY A SEEMINGLY VERY KNOWLEDGABLE MAN TO USE A PRODUCT FROM THE BAYER LINE. IT'S "TREE AND SHRUB" INSECT FORMULA THAT CONTAINS THE IMIDACLOPRID(SPELLING?) CHEMICAL IN IT AT 1.24% RATIO. HE SAID THAT THIS WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE SVB'S ATTACKING MY PUMPKINS. HE WAS VERY CONFIDENT OF THIS NEW SYSTEMIC PRODUCT SAYING THAT IT IS NEW AND THERE HASN'T BEEN TIME FOR INSECTS TO BUILD UP AN IMMUNITY TO IT YET. HAS ANYBODY HEARD ABOUT THIS PRODUCT YET? I WANT SOMETHING THAT WORKS. WHERE CAN I FIND THE "ADMIRE" OR "WARRIOR-T" PRODUCTS? I FEEL LIKE THE NEW KID IN CLASS!!!!

Greenhorn,
Once you find out the price for "Admire" and "Warrior", you'll but the Bayer product, they are all basically the same. I'm using the Bayer product and it works excellently. I spray it once a week, alternating with a product called "Scimitar" which I use to spray the newly grown tips when they're really" bolting", because it takes a while for the systemic to get into the new growth. These 2 combined have kept me relatively bug free!( Follow label directions.)

Remember....with a systemic insecticide you are relying on the bug to eat itself to death. If you can persuade it to stay away you are better off. The scimitar/Imidocloprid backup is a nice plan. What gets by the scimitar will likely get nailed by the "merit",imidocloprid,grubbex-backup......but not w/o some damage until it dies.....G

Scimitar CS has the same active ingredient as Warrior-T: lambda-cyhalothrin
Do a search for this active ingredient.

P.S. If you know any sweet corn farmers, they also use Warrior-T for corn, among other vegetables. See if they'll sell you a Tablespoon or 2. A little goes a long way-- 1.92 OUNCES DO A WHOLE ACRE!
A quart is about $90 delivered.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR ADVICE!THIS UPS DRIVER NEEDS ALL THE HELP HE CAN GET. THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN A GODSEND! ALTHOUGH I'M NOT GROWING THE ATLANTIC GIANT (ONLY ABLE TO FIND "BIG MAX" AND "MAMMOTH GOLD", I'M TRYING TO APPLY ALL OF YOUR PRINCIPALS IN MY MODEST LITTLE PATCH. IT'S HOT DOWN HERE IN GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI(GULFCOAST), SO I'LL BE USING YOUR SHADING TECHNIQUES AND PROBABLY A MISTING SYSTEM. THANKS AGAIN!

Snow? It's tolerable October through April but when it comes the other months of the year it really sucks. I had two inches in June (see photo in my diary). Last year it snowed over Labor Day.

Greenhorn,
It's cold and (sometimes) wet! A joy and favorite "playtoy" for young of all ages, and is fun until one has to plow, shovel, work out in, and get "stuck" in a little later on in life! Just like a beautiful woman, it's nice, but comes with a price!

Greenhorn,
I tried to e-mail you but there was some kind of error! That rate sounds like it should work for you, I was using it double strength that amount, but think it was "overkill"!

Green horn, Snow is beautiful and wonderful, October through March after that it is too long of a winter. This definately the Heart Land of America, and a gardener's paradise. I just moved here last year from FL, and will not go back except to visit. I miss the beach and the strawberry festival in Plant City Fl, and that is it..... Karen

Greenhorn,
Sorry for the delay, but am still recuperating from the O.V.G.P.G. picnic and tour! (Some awesome pumpkins and patches!)I usually spray each product every 7-10 days, like one on Sunday, and the other on Thursday. The Scimitar protects your new growth from cuke beetles, so if you only sprayed once a week with both at the same time, you'd be going 7-10 days without treating new growth, which might leave you susceptible! Verstehen Sie?
