I live in Idaho, do squash vine borers affect this area? If so what do I look for? This is my second season growing these things and I didn't seem to have any problems last year. Thanks, Brian

I have heard that SVB live only east of the Rockies.

Brian Someone I'm sure will post a picture of an adult moth. It is active during the day, almost looks like a wasp or strange bee. Flies with a darting motion. Will then close in under the leafs and lay eggs one at a time under the vines, tendrils, and on the leaf stems. Eggs are orange to brown, small but very visible. In about 7 days they hatch and eat their way into the vine and leaf stems. You will eventually notice a brown sawdust like excrement at various places on the vines. The adults have an active life of only 4 to 6 weeks so your spraying program revolves around whatever that is in your area if they are there.
