We had a big rain where I live, probably about 2 weeks of it. I had sprayed daconil on the leaves but still the powdery mildew spreads on new, green leaves and turn them yellow and die. The daconil isn't controlling the mildew like it's supposed to. What is the mind-boggling problem?

i have read that daconil does not control all strains of powdery mildew. it is also very bad where i live and i haven't figured out a good solution yet. i use mostly copper-based fungicides like copper hydroxide and it works ok if i spray early and often, but sometimes its so bad that there's not much i can do but clean up all the dead leaves. maybe try another fungicide to give it a one-two punch.

Yo guys, The problem with mildew is that it is always there...all year round...but it cannot multiply until the conditions are right...warm, damp and still weather. What you have to do is spray BEFORE it shows its ugly head. Once it shows its tooooo late as you cannot get rid of it, only stop it breeding any further. So SPRAY every week or two during the season to prevent it getting a hold. If you don't then it will run riot....prevention is better than cure.I never suffer with it by taking preventive measures.

I had the same problem and used a sulfur-based spray. The earlier, the better, but I could stop it completely from a bad situation, and it also works for cucumber or zucchini. Copper is better for tomatoes etc. Information (in german) is here (Netz-Schwefelit): http://www.neudorff.de/produkte/index.php?section=7&subsection=3
