Merit/Admire is sold somewhat differently in Canada than in the US. I understand that some people are using it as a drench as a season long sestemic insecticide. How late after planting can you apply it? How much are you mixing and in how much water/ Plant? What is the active ingrediant strenght of the Merit/ Admire you are using?

If you have the 75% Wetaabke Powder, the rate we use here is 4 level teaspoons per 2 gallons of water aplied to 1000 sq ft. Spray soil & plants, then water in immediately.
If you have the 2Lb Flowable (21.4% Imidacloprid), the same rate is .55 fluid oz per 1000 sq ft. I would persoannly use the same 2 gallons to deliver it with. But the volume of water you choose to use is more of a personal decision.
Probably the first thing to do is measure the patch. Next is to spray straight water on it a couple times as evenly as possible using whatever you are most comfortable applying with. Then record the amount of water you're using per spray. This is then the amount of water you'd want to add the 4 Teaspoons (or .55 oz) to.
