I have two plants that look like they started spliting with the vine at the crown area. Is this how the rot starts? They look like they are trying to heal . We have had a lot of rain the last few weeks could this have caused this?

How is the drainage? I wouldn't say that rain is directly7 causing a vine split. And a split doesn't guarantee rot. But combine a wind or other stress related split with poorly drained soils & rain.
But you said the split is healing? Perhaps a Captan or sulfur dust. Prune to allow better air circulation & remove any form of vine stress that remains.
