Hi, I went out to the patch this morning and notice that one side of one of my pumpkin vines was wilted. I started inspecting the wilted part of the vine and notice that it had a couple of small holes with some kind of worm that looked like a grub worm but with a smaller head inside the vine a munching away.I went berzerk and grabbed a sprayer and took care of them and the vine is fine now, but I was wondering if this is this the vine borer lava or something?

that's a vine borer alright. usually you won't be able to actually see the little son of a ....... without cutting the vine open. but, take a look around your plant, if you have one, you probably have more. look for the same wilty, brownish wet vine symptoms that you saw before. i usually use a razor and slice them out, but you have to go with the grain of the vine, not against it. some people inject insecticide, or nematodes in the vines to do the job. go over your whole plant, especially the stump, these things will ruin all your efforts in very little time. scott

I've decided to use them critters for fish bait if I run up on any more of them..hehe.. Really it was a error on my part for not spraying the vines very well. I had just sprayed to keep stuff off the leaves basically but I'll know better next time...Thanks
